TOPIC 6 – WEEK 9

Review

DNA structure: sugar (deoxyribose) + phosphate + nitrogenous base (A, T, G, C)
A: adenine
T: thymine
G: guanine
C: cytosine
A + T (2 hydrogen bonds)
G + C (3 hydrogen bonds)

COMMENT on this question:

What is an Okazaki fragment? & why does it occur?

WEEK 8 Preview

VOCABULARY:

nitrogenous base: adenine (A), thymine (T), guanine (G), cytosine (C)

backbone: deoxyribose (sugar) + phosphate

nucleotide: backbone + nitrogenous base

DNA: many nucleotides covalently bonded through the backbone

base pairing rules: A = T & G = C (held together by hydrogen bonds)

DNA polymerase: joins nucleotides together

semiconservative: each daughter double-stranded DNA has one strand from original & one strand new
